Sensory Box - Rice!

We recently added a "sensory box" to the learning play in our house. It's a shallow rubbermaid box - big enough for her to get in, but shallow enough for her to play in from the outside as well.  Our first sensory box item has been rice.  I bought a 20lb bag of white rice and added a couple of spoons, a measuring cup, ice tray, a funnel, and a smaller box. She loves it!

We've had it out for a couple of weeks now and play in it every 2-3 days. She has learned how to open the lid so I have to be pretty attentive! Next week I will probably change it out for another sensory project (but I will save the rice... we'll come back to it.) I mostly sit close by but try to let her explore on her own.  She sometimes wants me to play with her which I enjoy. She cracks up when I bury her feet in the rice. She really enjoyed adding colored rice to the white rice (and trying to pick it out again).  And yes, there is rice all over my house!  Good times.
